Afghan Army Girls

Afghan Army Girls

In 2011, the Afghan National Army had, for the first time ‘post Taliban’, opened its doors to women… and Raw Cut was allowed inside, to film the 20 week training program.

These women are pioneers in Afghanistan and face a very real danger of being targeted by the Taliban. Many have also been accused of bringing shame on their families, but each has a different reason for signing up to the army. For many it is to embrace women’s liberation in a country that has been subjected to strict Islamic law. Others have lost family members at the hands of the Taliban and feel that this is their chance to take positive action. For all of them, this is a challenge like no other.

Afghan Army Girls tells their remarkable stories.
